Referral
How do I get referred?
We always suggest a referral through your regular GP/doctor as they can monitor your progress and take into account your health and family history. However, this is not required as support can be provided to all people regardless of referral pathway.
The GP/Doctor route can be the most common as it also allows you to receive a rebated session fee. Simply put you organise by contacting your GP to let them know you are wanting to see a Psychologist. They will then write the necessary report and referral. This gives you a mental health care plan. With this, you can go to see any Psychologist and receive a rebated cost. You will have to pay the full cost and then this is rebated through Medicare. Medicare can provide more information but they typically cover 10 sessions a year with a rebate. Session rates can be negotiated in the initial session, however are typically covered entirely by Medicare.
Without a mental health care plan, you can still receive support except there is no rebate through Medicare. Your individual circumstances are considered and will be negotiated in the initial session.
